If you’re looking for a fun, unique, and affordable thing to do with kids in Colorado Springs, look no further than Cosmo’s Magic Theater. This cozy, vintage-style theater offers a kid-focused magic show that’s packed with laughs, surprises, and just the right amount of mind-blowing mystery for ages 3 and up. Not traveling with kids? Cosmo also has magnificent shows for the older crowd.
Whether you’re visiting Colorado Springs on vacation or are a local family looking for a weekend activity, this is a can’t-miss experience.
What Is Cosmo’s Magic Theater?
Cosmo’s Magic Theater is a charming, one-of-a-kind venue run by magician Cosmo Solano, who’s been performing professionally for over 30 years. He was mentored by contemporary masters of sleight of hand and even became a member of the famed Hollywood Magic Castle early in his career. Located just off Garden of the Gods Road, this intimate space is beautifully decorated with antique furniture, vintage posters, and a nostalgic charm that sets the stage for a truly magical experience.
The theater offers different shows for different age groups, including a kid-friendly Saturday matinee and more sophisticated evening shows for teens and adults.
The Kids’ Show: “Magic for Children”
The kids’ shows are held on select Saturdays at 3:00 PM and are tailored for younger audiences but still fun for the whole family. Cosmo keeps things fast-paced and silly enough to keep little ones giggling while throwing in clever tricks and jokes to impress the adults and keep the laughs rolling. The show lasts about 45 minutes, making it perfect for shorter attention spans.
Seating and Participation
The front two rows are reserved for kids, so they get the best view and a chance to participate in the show. Adults can sit just behind, close enough to see everything clearly. This is fantastic, except for when I need to give my son the “knock it off” look when he’s being disruptive during the show. 🤦♀️He made sure not to make eye contact with me during the show.
Kids are encouraged to participate, and many are invited onstage to help with tricks. My son was the first to go onstage, and he loved it! Then, he excitedly volunteered for every trick after that. Cosmo is great with kids and handles little rambunctious ones like my son perfectly. Cosmo, if you’re reading this, you might recognize my son. Again, I’m sorry! 🙏
Cosmo also calls on the adults to volunteer for a few of the magic tricks. I was one lucky (or unlucky since I am terrified of being in front of an audience) to assist with one of his tricks. I might have been singled out because of my overeager son. Thanks, Jack. Surprisingly, I agreed to go up and have fun! 🪄
How to Visit: Booking and Planning Tips
How to Get Tickets
You’ll want to buy tickets in advance on cosmosmagictheater.com, as the small theater often sells out.
Parking
Parking is free and easy, with plenty of space available in the lot directly outside the theater.
When to Arrive
The doors open about a half hour before the show. When you arrive, you’ll check in by giving your name.
You should arrive at least 10 minutes before the show. I recommend getting there 15-20 minutes early to explore the fun lobby full of magic memorabilia. They also serve cookies and juice.
Before the show, Cosmo popped into the lobby to greet everyone, which made the experience feel more personal. We got to chat with him for a few minutes, and you could tell right away how much he genuinely loves what he does—and how excited he is to share it with families. After the show, he was back in the lobby to say goodbye to his audience.
Hosting a Birthday Party or Event
Planning a celebration? Cosmo’s Magic Theater offers packages for birthday parties, private events, and company events. Their events page has more information.
What About the Adult Shows?
Cosmo also performs evening shows on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, which are ideal for teens and adults. These performances feature more advanced sleight-of-hand, mentalism, and storytelling. They’re recommended for ages 12+ and aren’t open to young children.
If you’re planning a parents’ night out or visiting Colorado Springs as a couple, it’s worth checking out the “Impossible Things,” “Out of Our Minds,” or “Random Acts of Magic” shows for a different, more theatrical magic experience.
Know Before You Go
If you’re worried about where you’re going to sit or whether you can make it, check their Things to Know page before booking. It has the details on seating assignments (for evening shows), cancellations, dress code, etc.
